Armoured ambulances by Welp Armouring premiere

On 7 and 8 March 2018 at the Enforce Tac in Nuremberg: Mercedes Sprinter F-MSC and police vehicle F2-TLC 900

Armoured ambulances by Welp Armouring premiere

The premiere was celebrated at the International Trade Fair and Conference for Internal Security GPEC in Frankfurt. The first armoured Mercedes Benz Sprinter F-MSC ambulance and the F2-TLC 900 specially protected police vehicle on a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 base. Next stop for the two prototypes of Welp Armouring is Nuremberg. At the Enforce Tac, the international trade fair for law enforcement, trade visitors and interested parties can experience two of the best-protected emergency vehicles in their class live. Welp Armouring presents both vehicles and much more on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7th and 8th, 2018, in Hall 11.0.
The outside of a normal Sprinter, inside a fully equipped ambulance, in between an amour according to VR6 / BRV 2009, which makes it one of the best-protected emergency vehicles in its class. At the GPEC in Frankfurt, Welp Armouring presented the armoured Mercedes-Benz Sprinter F-MSC ambulance for the first time – with success: The black van, developed and equipped in cooperation with WAS and Senger Rent. The special ambulance is armoured in the patient room with a steel cage of protection class VR6. In the ceiling, floor and side walls 5 mm thick steel plates are incorporated, which withstand, for example, attacks by an assault rifle (AK 47).

So far Welp Armouring has armoured its F-MSC for use as a passenger transporter, delivery vehicle, value transporter or troop transport. The list of individual configuration options is long, and the vehicle can be built up to the highest protection class (VR9) depending on the planned application. As always with Welp Armouring, the protection concept is based on a modular design and is completely designed as a screw armour variant. Vehicles such as the F-MSC ambulance do not attract undue attention, as the effective armour is not visible from the outside. At the GPEC, the black transporter with these characteristics quickly became one of the absolute highlights of the trade fair.
Another stood only a few feet away. In addition to the Sprinter, Welp Armouring presented a second prototype in Frankfurt: The protected police vehicle F2-TLC 900 on Toyota Land Cruiser 200 base has passed all impact and fire tests according to STANAG level 4569 in time for the GPEC. Thanks to the hot-formed wheel arch shell, the F2-TLC 900 withstands the impact of a six-kilogram landmine on the front wheel (level 2a), as well as the hand grenade Seitenansprengung (test guideline ERV2010). It fulfils all standards of protection class VR9. Governments, embassies, aid agencies and special forces commands worldwide already favour the F2 TLC, which is available in protection classes VR7 and VR9. Again, the special protection vehicle can not to be distinguished from the production model, making the armoured Toyota Land Cruiser interesting as a police vehicle in vulnerable areas.
Numerous trade visitors, representatives and customers convinced themselves in personal conversation and ensured Welp Armouring“s successful appearance at the GPEC 2018. The next event to experience protected rescue and police vehicles is on March 7 and 8, 2018, at the Enforce Tac in Nuremberg.

STÜKEN North America – 20 Years of Customer Satisfaction „Made in the USA“

STÜKEN North America - 20 Years of Customer Satisfaction "Made in the USA"

STÜKEN North America is celebrating its 20th anniversary. What in 1998 began as a spin-off of the German deep-drawing specialist has established itself as a valuable development partner for customers from all over the world.

For STÜKEN, the 1990s were a decade full of innovative product ideas for sophisticated deep-drawing technology – above all in the automotive industry. This industry developed new systems such as electronic brake systems, airbags or fuel injection systems to make driving safer and more economical. STÜKEN set standards in terms of practicality and cost savings with its deep-drawn stainless steel housings for fuel injectors. New technologies such as laser welding, camera monitoring and eddy current testing paved the way for further market share. Export increased, especially to the USA. Consequently, the family-owned business opened a plant in South Carolina in 1998 – the first international location for the medium-sized company. „You have to go where the customer demand is. With a certain volume it makes more sense to supply locally“, explains Dr. Hubert Schmidt, STÜKEN“s Chief Executive Officer.

In the 20 years since its foundation, the size of the production area has more than tripled from 3,000 sqm to 10,200 sqm. The third production hall was inaugurated in February 2015. In terms of technical equipment, the American subsidiary is in no way inferior to the German parent company. State-of-the-art deep-drawing technology plus a range of finishing processes meet almost every customer requirement. When the customer develops new products, STÜKEN co-develops and lines up accordingly. As a result, the team has grown from 10 to around 120 employees. „Some years ago STÜKEN North America started a training program in the field of mechanical engineering based on the German apprenticeship model,“ says Mark Foote, Vice President & General Manager. „With this program we target students from the surrounding high schools and hope to gain qualified junior staff.“

The majority of customers still come from the automotive industry – but no longer only from the USA. STÜKEN North America exports 45% of its products to China, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong and Europe. Today the oldest STÜKEN subsidiary – the group also operates plants in China and the Czech Republic – is going its own way. In its portfolio it already has successful projects in the field of medical engineering. One of the success stories is a high-quality insulin pen made of anodized aluminum, available in numerous colors. The deep-drawn covers and caps from STÜKEN replaced turned brass parts. This innovative approach helped to reduce costs and increase possibilities: only by using aluminum with its suitability for anodizing the many colors were made possible. Mark Foote: „A nice piece of development work in our company, a big advantage for our customer.“

In this manner STÜKEN North America aims for further growth and expects sales of 25 million US dollars for 2018.

About STÜKEN
Founded in 1931, STÜKEN today is considered the leading global supplier of precision deep-drawn parts made of metal. Stampings and injection molded parts as well as complex assemblies complete the range and guarantee customers finished products of highest quality. The products can be found in countless applications from domestic appliances and fittings to computers, mobile phones and automobiles. Statistically every car sold worldwide contains 40 STÜKEN components. The independent, innovative family-owned company based in the German city of Rinteln on the river Weser has about 1.250 employees, subsidiaries in the United States, the Czech Republic and the People´s Republic of China, and achieved sales of 187 million euros in 2017.

Euro.

EU funding for Proof of Concept clinical study in Stargardt’s disease

Katairo received 6 million euros from the European Commission’s H2020 program

EU funding for Proof of Concept clinical study in Stargardt

Dr. Wolfgang Klein, CEO of Katairo (Source: Wolfgang Klein)

(Stuttgart/Tübingen) – Together with a consortium of six partners, Katairo received funding from the European Commission’s H2020 program. The consortium was awarded close to 6 million euros for the performance of a proof of concept clinical study in Stargardt’s patients with Katairo’s drug candidate Remofuscin.

Stargardt’s disease is associated with accumulation of cellular debris, lipofuscin, in a cell layer behind the retina, the ‚retinal pigment epithelium‘ (RPE). At the end of a long process of accumulating lipofuscin, these non-dividing cells become dysfunctional and degenerate. Stardardt’s disease is an orphan indication. There is no approved treatment for this ailment. Patients face serious visual impairment or blindness.

Remofuscin is Katairo’s pioneering drug candidate that allows to remove accumulating lipofuscin from the RPE. This could stop the progression of retinal degeneration and thereby creates hope for tens of thousands of people affected by this ailment. Remofuscin is a promising drug candidate to treat Stargardt’s disease and dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). The program is entering clinical phase II. Katairo has received orphan drug designation for Stargardt’s disease in the US and Europe.

Together with a consortium of six EU based partners, Katairo received funding from the European Commission’s H2020 program to perform a proof of concept clinical study in Stargardt’s patients with Remofuscin. Under the project name ‚Soraprazan‘ which relates to the active ingredient of Remofuscin, the safety and efficacy of the drug will be tested. The consortium was awarded close to 6 million euros to test safety and efficacy of the drug.

„We are very excited about the opportunity to test Remofuscin in a proof of concept clinical trial“, says Katairo’s CEO Wolfgang Klein. „With this, our drug candidate has reached a crucial phase of development. With results on the table we, our partners, the scientific community, and most importantly patients, will know better if the hope associated with Remofuscin is likely to materialize.“

The six partners in the European consortium include five eye hospitals
– Radboud University Medical Center of Stichting Katholieke Universiteit in Nijmegen,
– University Eye Hospital of Eberhard Karls Universitaet Tuebingen,
– Leiden University Medical Center of Academisch Ziekenhuis Leiden,
– University of Southhampton vision research group, and
– Ospedale San Rafaele in Milano
and the Norwegian CRO SMERUD Medical Research in Oslo with its affiliates SMERUD Medical Research Germany and UK. The project is coordinated by Eberhard Karls Universitaet Tuebingen.

„We are happy to support and implement the Remofuscin program in Stargardt’s disease“, says Coordinating Principle Investigator Prof. Carel Hoyng, specialist in inherited retinal diseases at Radboud University Medical Center. „The drug’s potential goes beyond existing approaches. So far, the attempt was to keep lipofuscin levels the same. Remofuscin has shown to actually remove existing lipofuscin in pre-clinical models. This may result in significant patient benefit.“

Sunny offices on demand

Finding quality office space does not have to be difficult

Sunny offices on demand

One of the big conference rooms at De Soet Consulting

Starting a new business is not always easy, but it does not have to be complicated either, says Rieta de Soet, CEO of De Soet Consulting in Switzerland. You just need to be sure of what it is that you really want and then focus on how to get it.

Once someone has decided to start a company the question is where should the company be located? Ideally it should be somewhere with easy access to a good infrastructure and qualified staff, yet within the given budget. Once you’ve found the right city and area, you have to figure out whether you want to buy, build or rent an office. Rieta de Soet, if you choose to rent an office at a De Soet Consulting Business Center you have a lot of benefits.

It is easier to expand or downsize given to changing circumstances. The lease is flexible, which gives the customer less to worry about, says Rieta de Soet. „Here at De Soet Consulting Business Center we do our best to support our clients and their set goals“, says Fabian de Soet. The De Soet Consulting Business Center are full of opportunities.

Another positive aspect is that the Business Centers are fully equipped.

There have never been so many options for finding the best office solution, says Rieta Vanessa de Soet. If you still prefer to work in your own office, you have to calculate high costs for furniture, rent and long term contracts.

People who like being on the safe side, will be enthusiastic about the concept of a Business Center. Also De Soet Consulting offers qualified employees, for example secretaries, business economists and a tax consultants, who are available on demand.
