In this work, the world“s leading provider of independent monitoring systems has added a wide range of new features and the innovative power plant controller blue“Log X-Control to its solution. The stars of the company“s exhibition booth will be the data logger blue“Log X series and the monitoring and operation management platform VCOM. Visitors to the trade fair will also learn about the innovative methods that meteocontrol intends to use in the future to further optimize fault alarms with the help of data analytics. meteocontrol will present its latest innovations at Booth 251 in Hall B2.

VCOM: systematically uncovering yield losses
About 45,000 PV systems around the globe with a total power output of more than 13 GWp are currently being monitored in the VCOM portal. meteocontrol is writing a new chapter in this success story by introducing a wide range of upgrades. The performance ratio and system availability can be parameterized so that operation managers can easily display contractually regulated formulas. As a way of quickly identifying small yield losses, meteocontrol has developed the actual/rated performance graphic and a heat map for string currents. Fully automated reporting has been made even simpler as well: Clearly structured portfolio reports comprehensively inform investors and stakeholders about the performance of their systems and portfolios. meteocontrol“s newly developed VCOM monitoring app for visualizations on mobile and devices also now includes solar power forecasts and performance values.

blue“Log X series: making the quality of measurement data transparent
With its major release for 2018, meteocontrol has made the blue“Log X series that has proved itself for three years more innovative and future-proof – while maintaining its high quality, performance and IT security. New functionalities provide a high level of transparency for measurement data and communications, including minute values and the recording of the communication quality between blue“Log and inverters, sensors and meters. Alarm management now includes parameters like sunrise and sunset in addition to offering efficient filter functions. „We also focused our enhancement efforts on smooth maintenance,“ said Martin Schneider, the Managing Director of meteocontrol. „This includes a lean firmware update, the simple add-on installation of driver packages, SD card replacement in case of a device defect and a configuration backup. And our individualized license model will ensure more cost efficiency.“

Plant control: blue“Log X-Control with integrated VPN client
With the X-Control – the heart of meteocontrol“s park controller – meteocontrol has developed an intelligent, ground-breaking solution. The new transparent controller core makes it possible to include the control functions in network simulation models. The X-Control also ensures that the continuously rising demands of energy providers can be met. Other enhancements assist solar trader activities that have proved effective in Germany for three years now: The integrated VPN client automatically establishes a connection to the solar trader in the blue“Log, without using an additional VPN router. Setup and the function test can be done much faster and easier. „With the help of X-Control, operators are prepared in the best-possible way for the European revision of the network codes and related changes to Germany“s medium- and high-voltage directives,“ Schneider said. „They can also work efficiently and cost effectively.“

Alarm management 2.0: heading into the future with data analytics
To further improve monitoring in the VCOM portal, meteocontrol plans to add an assistant to VCOM in the next step. At the meteocontrol booth, trade fair visitors will learn about how data analytics can help detect errors more quickly, report causes more precisely and recognize future error patterns – all in the name of „Alarming 2.0.“ „This works best in cooperation with the operation manager,“ Martin Schneider said. „User feedback is a key component for the learning system and can be integrated easily. We want to provide our customers with a tool that will enable them to technically operate a number of solar parks as easily as possible.“

Düsseldorf, May 24, 2018 – Asahi Kasei continues to strengthen its activities in the hydrogen business. Following the start of a demonstration project in Herten, Germany, in April 2018, the Japanese technology company now launched an alkaline-water electrolysis demonstration project in Soma, Fukushima, Japan. The new project aims at the development of a large-scale production system for green hydrogen by using power input from renewable energy sources.

Asahi Kasei started an alkaline-water electrolysis demonstration project for the production of green hydrogen using renewable energy in Soma, Fukushima, Japan. The project is a joint project with the Japanese IHI Corporation. The alkaline-water electrolyser is installed at the Soma IHI Green Energy Center, which was launched in April 2018 by Soma City and IHI. It features large electrodes, maximum electrolytic capacity of 120 KW and hydrogen production capacity of 25 Nm3/h. Green hydrogen is produced by only using electric power from renewable energy sources.

The project uses a large-scale alkaline-water electrolysis system having the world“s largest electrodes developed on commission by Japan“s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Previous tests by Asahi Kasei have confirmed that the system enables high energy efficiency of over 90%. It furthermore features outstanding responsiveness with fluctuating power input which makes this system suitable for power input from renewable energy sources. The demonstration project is expected to verify the practicability of the alkaline-water electrolyser employed in an integrated configuration with an actual photovoltaic power generation facility. The project is scheduled from April 2018 to March 2020.

Intensifying activities in the field of clean environmental energy
Asahi Kasei will utilize the know-how gained through this demonstration project to advance the commercialization of an alkaline-water electrolysis system featuring the world-leading scale of 10 MW in a single unit, in accordance with the company“s strategic management focus on providing solutions to society in the area of clean environmental energy.

The demonstration project in Soma is Asahi Kasei“s next step in the expansion of its green hydrogen business. On April 27, Asahi Kasei Europe, the operational headquarter of the Asahi Kasei Group in Europe, started a demonstration project with an alkaline-water electrolyser in the Hydrogen City of Herten in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The joint project together with the Hydrogen Competence Center h2herten simulates the production of hydrogen from wind energy and contributes to the development of an electrolysis system for the production of green hydrogen on a large scale.

BHS-Sonthofen will present the pre-shredder of type VRS 1215 at IFAT 2018. It is used for the pre-shredding of domestic and commercial waste, white goods, electronic waste and building materials. For the first time, BHS optionally supplies the machine with either a tearing table or a counter-crossbeam. This allows customers to adapt it to a wide range of feed materials and desired granulation of the shredded material – which is a key prerequisite for cleanly separating the material by type. BHS will also be presenting a Rotorshredder of type RS 2018, which the company has developed specifically for shredding electronic waste.

The pre-shredder of type VSR is a low-speed, high-torque twin-shaft shredder. Due to the rotor shafts“ relatively large diameter and the special blade geometry, the machine is particularly suited for the tearing pre-shredding of large or voluminous materials such as household, industrial, commercial and bulky waste.

The tearing table is used when processing bulky feed material. The new counter-crossbeam is ideal for the pre-shredding of materials such as electronic waste. In this application, it is particularly important to cleanly break apart solid components – for example, printer steel shafts – without damaging batteries and capacitors.

BHS will also be presenting the Rotorshredder of type RS 2018 with new discharge doors developed specifically for shredding electronic waste. Thanks to the doors“ arrangement, material that has already been separated is prevented from once again mixing with other components. As a result, the machine delivers cleanly separated materials for efficient downstream processing.

The VSR“s technology in detail

The pre-shredder of type VSR is fed from above via a large feed hopper. The feed material is captured by the two rotating shafts, which change their direction of rotation at regular intervals. The tearing tools are arranged on the shaft in a mirror-symmetric formation that allows them to act in both directions during rotation. A pusher presses the feed material between the shafts, thus ensuring a high throughput.

If a high degree of shredding is required, BHS offers to install a tearing table under the rotor shafts, which is designed as a single-unit cassette. If a lower degree of shredding is desired – for example, in the pre-shredding of electronic waste – BHS will set up a counter-crossbeam below the two rotor shafts instead of the tearing table. The beam ensures that batteries and capacitors remain intact.

In both cases, the design delivers a double shredding action: Shredding takes place between the rotating tools on both shafts as well as between these and the stationary tearing table or crossbeam.

As soon as the feed material has reached the target size, it exits the machine through the bottom and is transported to the sorting chamber via a conveyor belt. Scrapers prevent material from wrapping around the shafts or adhering to them.

The machine housing is designed as a highly robust, one-piece, welded steel construction devoid of any screw connections. This design ensures high availability, long service life of wear parts and low maintenance requirements.

Both the rotor shafts and the tearing table or the crossbeam can be regenerated by means of simple surfacing jobs. Moreover, a quick-change system makes it possible to replace the rotor shafts within just four hours. When the infeed hopper has been disassembled, the rotor shafts equipped with their quick coupling are exposed. As a special feature of BHS products, the bridges of the bearing shells can be removed without having to remove the gear unit. This also exposes the tearing table cassette, allowing it to be replaced.

At this year“s Hanover Fair ENTRADE Energiesysteme AG is presenting a further model of the biogenic-waste fueled power plant it has developed in-house. Currently two versions are available, with a respective electrical output of 25 kW (E3) or 50 kW (E4). These can be combined on the modular principle to form larger units, resulting in power plants of up to 5 MW.

The E3 and the new, more powerful E4 compact power plant – which are protected by numerous patents – are based on years of research and development. In a high-temperature reactor they use previously unused biogenic waste to produce a high-quality synthesis gas, which in turn drives an internal combustion engine and supplies electricity as well as heat or, if required, cooling.

Power plant can start operation within two days

It is the world’s first modular, series-produced, patented, fully automatic biomass power plant for grid-connected and off-grid power generation. Each individual small power plant (E4) has a generator output of 50 kWel and a nominal heat output of 120 kWth, and can be put into operation on a turnkey basis within 48 hours. This capacity can supply around 50 households with electricity and heat.

With a length of 186 cm, a width of 156 cm and a height of only two metres, the individual system modules are particularly compact and can be shipped worldwide, even by air freight. Even without renewable energy subsidies the electric power they generate is competitive compared to other conventional or renewable power sources, and can be used locally in the stand-alone operation or fed into the public grid. The waste heat is used for heating purposes or can be transformed into cooling. The special feature: the individual small power plants can be connected to form larger units, resulting in power plants of up to 5 MW. In the last 18 months more than 150 of these power plants have been planned or commissioned in nine different countries worldwide.

Another focus at ENTRADE AG is to combine various renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics, wind power and biogas into a hybrid grid, thus forming a single power plant unit. Here the advantages of the respective technologies are optimally used in order to exploit the resulting synergies.

Many advantages over conventional power plants

Compared to conventional power plants, the E3 and E4 have a range of advantages.

– Flexible system sizes in electrical output steps of 25 kW.
– Biogenic waste serves as fuel, which makes power generation particularly sustainable.
– Even in the lower output range the modules have a very high efficiency level of over 85 percent.
– The compact power plants can be set up wherever the energy is needed or the waste is available.
– They do not require long approval procedures and can therefore be connected to the grid within 48 hours.
– Due to their modular design they are highly protected from breakdown and require little maintenance.
– It can be combined with other renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy to form a hybrid grid, with the biomass power plant providing the base load and compensating for any fluctuation on the part of other energy sources.
– In terms of price the compact power plants are below usual costs for power plant construction.

After successful on schedule commissioning of the 64.1MW Egyptian Benban solar power plant in December 2017, Gantner Instruments Environment Solutions is pleased to announce that the company was repeatly chosen as supplier for the complete monitoring system for the next three plants in Benban complex with a total of 166.5MW.

Gantners monitoring and control solution „Made in Germany“ is an optimised, individually tailored system and – as result of high quality engineering – based on newest technology.

Project scope and components provided by Gantner:

Q.reader data logger and Power plant controller

The heart of Gantners monitoring solution is the inverter independent datalogger Q.reader which tracks and controls all power plant information. The scalable modular design allows to control up to 100MW by one Q.reader. As Power plant controller (PPC) it provides all important functionality as absolute production constraint, power gradient constraint, voltage control, power factor control etc.

The PPC fulfils the requirements of the Solar Energy Plants Grid Connection Code, in addition to the Egyptian Transmission Grid Code (ETGC). Also grid communication to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) is in the scope of our solution and based on IEC 60870 standard.

DC Combiner boxes

Gantners latest string level monitoring devices „string.bloxx“ provide current measurements 10 times more accurate compared with competing monitoring solutions, not susceptible to temperature variance. Designed as an integral component of our individually customized DC Combiner boxes (DCB) „string.CB/CC“ they are applicable for string voltage up to 1500V and dimensioned for up to 32 PV strings. The composition of our highly demanded DCBs has been ten of thousand times successfully proven itself in various solar projects, often with very special requirements in terms of both technical performance and of regional standards as well as in extreme climatic conditions.

Meteo

Meteorological data such as solar irradiance, ambient temperature, module surface temperature and wind parameters are monitored according to IEC 61853 standard.

Commissioning

Commissioning of the power plant has been performed onsite by our engineers. Remote support is provided via high security connection with help of „gantner.RAS“. Gantner.RAS is a remote access service for global fleet management of onsite DAQ devices.

Cloud based analysis software

Gantner.webportal is a cloud-based software solution for PV monitoring, data storage, visualization and analysis. Automated reporting and a dashboard provide traceability of the PV plant performance for the investor/owner. Forecasting for PV power production is based on semi-physical models that make use of PV system configuration information. Gantner.webportal is fully compliant with international standards as IEC 61724-2.

Augsburg/San Salvador, December 07, 2017 – meteocontrol GmbH has just laid the groundwork for further growth. The world’s leading provider of independent PV monitoring systems has signed an agreement to set up a joint venture in El Salvador. Together with the partner company ECOBLITZ S.A. de C.V., meteocontrol plans to expand its presence in Central America and Mexico and to intensify the customer support it provides there. The new company will operate under the name of meteocontrol Central America S.A. de C.V. and be based in San Salvador.

„By establishing another joint venture, we are systematically continuing to apply our expansion strategy in Latin America,“ said Martin Schneider, the Managing Director of meteocontrol. „The partnership with ECOBLITZ will give us a local presence in Mexico and Central America.
