estos MetaDirectory 4 Enterprise Now Available

New replicators, new user management and user-based licensing, distinguishes the latest versions of the leading LDAP middleware for Unified Communications

estos MetaDirectory 4 Enterprise Now Available

Starnberg, 7/8/2017

With immediate effect, MetaDirectory Enterprise Version 4 is available with a host of new features: web service-based replicators, user administration, user-based licensing, 64-bit architecture, and support for IPv6. In principle, the MetaDirectory 4 Enterprise combines existing, distributed contact data from different data sources into a company-wide directory based on LDAP. It processes names, addresses, phone numbers, images and customer-specific information, standardizes and normalizes them – especially for unified communications hardware and software solutions that rely on the LDAP standard. This ensures a simple search and quick presentation of the results – even with large data files.

Web service-based replicators enable data from cloud-based systems to be replicated. For example, contacts from MS Office365, MS Dynamics365, Google G Suite or Salesforce are also available in the company-wide LDAP directory. The user-specific access control contributes to the protection of sensitive data in the sense of the „need-to-know“ principle. The administrator can define which members of a group can view certain contact data. Information is only displayed if it is relevant to the searcher. For example, if a member of the Sales team searches for a contact, the result includes contact information about offers, licenses, and sales, whereas a member of the Development team receives only the contact data for the same contact. „In the new version of MetaDirectory, we have changed from server to user-based licensing,“ explains Joachim Frenzel, Product Manager at estos. „This makes our directory service more affordable for smaller companies and therefore more attractive to use.“ With the new 64-bit architecture and the additional support of IPv6, the estos directory service is sustainable in the long term. In conjunction with a Unified Communications & CTI software suite such as ProCall Enterprise, the deployment forms the foundation for business process integration.

MetaDirectory 4 Enterprise from estos is now available directly from estos and sales partners such as ITK distributors, qualified retailers and trained system integrators. Further information can be found at https://www.estos.com/products/metadirectory .

Now Available: ixi-UMS 6 Business

estos Unified Messaging Server now as a simple complete package for small businesses

Now Available: ixi-UMS 6 Business

Starnberg, 2/8/2017

The software producer estos from Starnberg has now released the brand-new version of the ixi-UMS Unified Messaging Server: ixi-UMS 6 Business is especially designed for small businesses with up to 100 employees. Predefined packages for 5 to 100 users include the UM features: fax, voice and SMS, including mobile access. The integration into messaging systems takes place via the SMTP connector, and the connection to PBXs via SIP, H.323 or CAPI. The integration capability in ProCall Enterprise completes the spectrum. „We have designed the installation, administration and implementation to be as easy as possible,“ explains Bernd Kattner, product manager at estos GmbH. „Our partners can quickly integrate the UM features into their customers“ system environments and make them easily available to their employees.“

The functions in Detail
ixi-UMS 6 Business complements existing messaging systems such as Microsoft Exchange Server or IBM Domino with additional features such as fax, voicemail or SMS. The user intuitively handles the new message types with its familiar e-mail client. Fax messages are received in the inbox as e-mails with a PDF file attachment. Faxes can be sent by opening a new e-mail window. Here, the user can write texts or attach documents, addressing them to a fax number with the appropriate identification, for example, faxnummer@ixifax.com. The rest is taken over by ixi-UMS 6 Business. The „Voice“ function provides a software-based answering machine. Ixi-UMS 6 delivers business messages in the form of a WAV file in the respective inbox. The user can then listen to the message via his telephone or PC with sound card and edit it like an e-mail. Browser-based, it allows the user to configure the voice mailbox, for example, to create profiles or set up call forwarding. Short messages can be sent simply via a „new e-mail“ to an address such as: mobilnummer@ixisms.com, and are sent by preconfigured SMS providers via http. An account with one of these SMS providers must be available.

Client Tools
ixi-UMS Client Tools, which is also available in the brand-new version, offers additional convenience. The Fax printer driver included in the Client Tools makes it possible to send faxes from all Windows programs that have a printing function. Based on Microsoft Word, the users can use features for Autofax or serial fax. With Autofax, you can send faxes directly from a Word document: ixi-UMS 6 Business recognizes the fax number using predefined criteria. Serial faxes can be created similar to serial letters. Faxes or short messages can also be launched directly from Microsoft Outlook contacts: The user marks the contact and selects „Fax“ or „SMS“ in the ixi-UMS. An e-mail window with an appropriate address will open.

Mobile Access
On the road, ixi-UMS 6 Business users can access all messages in the inbox via PC, phone, smartphone or tablet via the e-mail mailbox. Voice messages can be listened to remotely by mobile phone or by telephone. Users then have the option to either reply with a voice message, or to forward or delete the message. In addition, the user can use a web browser via a smartphone or tablet to read faxes and SMS messages in the inbox or listen to any voice messages.

Integration in ProCall Enterprise
Furthermore, the Unified Messaging Server can be integrated into the Unified Communications and CTI Software Suite ProCall Enterprise. Users can initiate faxes directly from the ProCall client and are informed of new fax messages in the sum bubble. The voice mailbox can be configured via ProCall and the ixi-UMS Journal can be managed in the client.

Availability and Further Information
ixi-UMS 6 Business from estos is now available directly from estos or sales partners such as ITK distributors, qualified retailers and trained system integrators. Further information can be found at https://www.estos.com/products/ixi-ums-business .

Strong expansion of the portfolio and computer access via IP structures

Strong expansion of the portfolio and computer access via IP structures

Strong expansion of the product portfolio and flexible computer access via IP structures: these are only two of the key points that await visitors to Guntermann & Drunck’s trade fair stand at the 2017 IBC, 15-19 September, hall 1, stand B10. The newest member of G&D“s KVM family is the IP transmission based KVM extender DP-Vision-IP. It allows great flexibility and overcomes the existing spatial restrictions on bridging distances.

The DisplayPort™ KVM extender system DP-Vision-IP consists of a computer module and a workstation module and facilitates the remote operation of a computer. DisplayPort 1.1a image data is processed pixel-perfect and with great hand-eye coordination. The maximum possible image resolution corresponds to a pixel rate of up to 300Mpixel/s. DP-Vision-IP supports DisplayPort 1.1. Video resolution of up to 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz or 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Transmission of compressed data is by CAT cabling via an IP based network on Layer 3 – and beyond network boundaries. Video, keyboard, mouse and control data are encrypted with AES-128.

The KVM-over-IP™ developed by G&D reveals the limits of dedicated cabling, because existing powerful IP infrastructures can be used with it. It can be combined with other G&D devices, enabling complex installations to be IP accessible.

The DP-Vision-IP System has a proven monitoring and SNMP function, which facilitates continual monitoring of device statuses and sends status notifications.

With DP-Vision-IP and many other product innovations G&D is responding to the trends in broadcasting. It offers the largest range of KVM systems available on the market. These and other powerful solutions will be presented by the trade fair team at the 2017 IBC, 15-19 September in hall 1, stand B10.

estos ECSTA Series Now Supports the TELES Voice Application Server

The next generation of middleware connecting in the cloud

estos ECSTA Series Now Supports the TELES Voice Application Server

Starnberg/Berlin, 26/7/2017

The estos ECSTA 5 is now available for the TELES Voice Application Server: The newest generation of middleware permits the connection of TAPI-capable applications, such as industry solutions or ProCall Enterprise for instance, to the TELES UC solution from the cloud. Among other features, the users can then control Voice Application Server functions and commands with their PC and at the same time utilise the options and information from their IT environment. For instance, they can establish, accept and end calls by mouse click, connect conferences and set up routing and forwarding of calls. The hotkey dialling frees the caller from keying in phone numbers by hand, thus ensuring that potential mistakes are avoided from the outset, while functions such as the caller ID permits the users to greet their callers by name.

The ECSTA series from estos is a specialised CTI middleware that facilitates communications between telephone systems and the Microsoft Windows IT world. The TELES Voice Application Server gives service providers the means to offer their business customers services and connectivity from the cloud for all of their telephone systems and terminal devices. Together, they allow companies to combine services from the cloud with their on-premises CTI software. „The keyword here is hybrid cloud,“ as David Welzmiller, Deputy Head of Product Management at estos, explains. „Companies can install a unified communications and collaboration software suite in-house, such as ProCall Enterprise, and connect their telecommunication systems with the IP-based cloud via our ECSTA.“ Likewise, the estos middleware supports any intended migration: If a company is planning to switch over its in-house telephone system to an IP PBX from the cloud, the CTI software being used can be retained. In each case, the appropriate ECSTA ensures there is a smooth connection with the corresponding PBX. „In this case, the end customers benefit from us being able to give the service providers additional and even more flexible options,“ Oliver Olbrich, Co-CEO of TELES, added. „They can move their telecommunications into the cloud, without sacrificing any of the CTI functionalities.“ The software components in the estos ECSTA series support telecommunication systems from differing manufacturers and network them across a number of locations as required. Furthermore, the middleware from Starnberg excels thanks to its stability, simple installation and configuration, as well as its easy servicing. Further information is available at https://www.estos.com/products/ecsta-serie.

G&D KVM systems – High video resolutions and smart solutions for the next generation of broadcasting

G&D KVM systems - High video resolutions and smart solutions for the next generation of broadcasting

At IBC 2017, Guntermann and Drunck GmbH will again arrive with a suitcase full of new products to excite visitors with KVM solutions for the extension of high-resolution 4K and 8K video signals – pixel-perfect, latency-free and fail-safe. One of these next generation solutions is the KVM extender DP1.2-VisionXG, which transmits even 8K resolutions at 60 Hz – uncompressed, loss-less and without any latency.

The KVM system consists of a computer and a user module. Operators benefit from a pixel-perfect, uncompressed transmission of high-resolution DisplayPort videos over distances up to 10,000m. The device is available in variants with up to four video channels. Thanks to the source synchronicity of the video channels, even video resolutions up to 8K can be extended over long distances. The DP1.2-VisionXG uses optical fibres for the dedicated transmission of signals and therefore provides enough bandwidth for uncompressed, high-resolution DisplayPort 1.2 video signals, keyboard/mouse, RS232, USB2.0, and audio.

Switching 4K resolutions via matrix systems
Another highlight will be the demonstration of the new DP1.2-Vision extender generation, which is fully compatible with G&D“s digital matrix switches and allows the extension, switching and distribution of 4K video through these matrix systems. The KVM extender system provides pixel-perfect images and uses the in-house HDIP compression technology in the latest development stage, Level 3. This compression mode allows the loss-less transmission of video signals with a resolution of 4K at 60Hz. Thus, the systems require less bandwidth to transmit signals – but still provide crystal-clear images and latency-free operation.

InfoComm 2017 – it“s all about 4K and 8K

The world“s first and only KVM extender to transmit 8K video – made in Germany

InfoComm 2017 - it"s all about 4K and 8K

With a suitcase full of product innovations, this year again Guntermann & Drunck GmbH and its subsidiary G&D North America Inc. will travel to Orlando, FL to participate in InfoComm 2017, the largest annual conference for AV buyers and sellers in the Western Hemisphere. Visitors can expect various next-generation KVM solutions and the market“s broadest KVM product portfolio.

One of these smart solutions is the KVM extender DP1.2-VisionXG. The system of superlatives makes it possible to transmit 4K and 8K resolutions at a refresh rate of 60 Hz over large distances – uncompressed, loss-less and without any latency. The KVM extender system consists of a computer module and a user module. It allows users to operate their computers remotely while benefitting from the pixel-perfect, uncompressed transmission of high-resolution DisplayPort videos over distances up to 10,000m. The device is available in variants with up to four video channels. Thanks to the source synchronicity of the video channels, even extremely high video resolutions such as 4K and 8K can be extended over long distances.

Pixel-perfect and latency-free
The DP1.2-VisionXG uses optical fibers for the dedicated transmission. Thus, the system provides enough bandwidth for uncompressed, high-resolution DisplayPort 1.2 video signals, keyboard/mouse, RS232, USB2.0, and audio.

With a network port, an intuitive web interface, monitoring, syslog, SNMP, screen freeze function and a redundant power supply, the DP1.2-VisionXG offers numerous features for mission-critical applications.

Loss-less and pixel-prefect transmission even for compressing KVM systems
At InfoComm 2017, G&D will also introduce the KVM extender DP1.2-Vision, which uses the in-house HDIP compression technology in the latest development stage, Level 3. This compression mode allows the loss-less transmission of video signals with a resolution of 4K at 60Hz. Thus, the systems require less bandwidth to transmit signals – but still provide clear and visually lossless images and a latency-free operation. The DP1.2-Vision supports the transmission of DisplayPort1.2 signals, which takes place either via CAT cables over distances up to 140 m or via optical fibres to 10,000 m.

Switching 4K resolutions via matrix systems
The advantage of a lower bandwidth and a compressed image transmission: Video signals can be better processed and switched. Thus, the KVM extender DP1.2-Vision can be combined with a matrix application and 4K signals can be distributed by matrix systems. KVM matrix systems allow the independent and remote operation of multiple computers over multiple, simultaneous consoles.
Even with different features, all G&D products are compatible and can be combined. Thus, the KVM extender DP1.2-Vision can easily be integrated into G&D matrix systems such as the ControlCenter-Compact or the ControlCenter-Digital, which allows the extension and switching of 4K at 60 Hz through the matrix.

Versatile functions for flexible operation
G&D matrix systems feature a range of mission-critical and user-friendly features, such as CrossDisplay-Switching, the push-get function and scenario switching to make the work of the all users as efficient and as comfortable as possible.

Unlimited access with KVM-over-IP™
The latest member of the G&D KVM family is the DP-Vision-IP, a KVM extender based on IP structures.

The system supports DisplayPort video resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz or 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Combinations with other G&D systems are also possible thus allowing complex installations with worldwide access. With the DP-Vision-IP, G&D are significantly expanding their portfolio and currently offer the broadest range of KVM systems available on the market.

With these powerful expansions to their portfolio G&D introduces their answer to the calls for 4K equipment and provide a large selection of powerful solutions. These and other applications will be presented at InfoComm 2017, booth 2580 in Orlando. The G&D team look forward to advising customers and interested parties on high-performance KVM solutions.

estos ECSTA Series Version 5 Now Available

New generation of CTI middleware now released for even more PBX systems and SIP phones

estos ECSTA Series Version 5 Now Available

Starnberg, 20/7/2017

estos releases the latest generation of its ECSTA series: Not only has the software manufacturer from Starnberg improved the performance and optimized the administration interface, but Version 5 also supports more PBX“s and SIP devices as well as the latest versions of Microsoft“s operating systems. The ECSTA series from estos is a specialized CTI middleware that enables communication between telephone systems and the Microsoft Windows IT world. It combines, for example, the Unified Communications & CTI software suite ProCall Enterprise with whatever respective telecommunication system is in use.

In the latest generation of the ECSTA series, the lines can be read more quickly. „This is especially beneficial for large installations,“ explains David Welzmiller, Deputy Head of Product Management at estos. „This allows the software to be configured faster.“ In addition, administration is made easier with a clearer interface. For example, the administrator can identify the status of a TAPI line directly in the driver and reset it if necessary. Furthermore, future sustainability is ensured with the support of the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems, such as Windows Server 2016. With an eye on the future, even more SIP telephones can be connected now, as used in IP-Centrex scenarios: Now the user can control Auerswald and Yealink SIP telephones with their PC too.

Basically, the ECSTA series from estos connects telephone systems to the IT world. Almost all well-known manufacturers are supported, such as: Unify, Alcatel-Lucent, Mitel, Avaya, Panasonic, Deutsche Telekom and Cisco. ECSTA series software modules emphasise the multi-site/multi-vendor strategy of estos, which aims to combine telecommunication systems from different CTI manufacturers that are distributed over various locations, thus integrating communication functions into the IT application world via a uniform interface. This reduces the cost of migration for existing telephone systems to a modern Unified Communications solution. The CTI middleware from Starnberg is characterized by outstanding stability, particularly easy installation and configuration as well as trouble-free maintenance. Further information can be found at estos web pages.

How to choose the right display for photography and graphics design

How to choose the right display for photography and graphics design

What features should graphics designers and photographers look out for when they are shopping for a professional display?

With a plethora of monitor sizes, resolutions, aspect ratios, panel technologies and colour support all vying for shelf space in retail stores, even professional users can have a hard time choosing the right display to make their photos and designs stand out. MMD, brand license partner for Philips monitors, has put together a few pointers:

1.First, the crux issue: colour. In a professional environment, on-screen colours must be as close a match as possible to the output on other devices (like printers). This is why accurate colour representation is so important. Although it might sound plenty, the 16.7 million colours that can typically be reproduced on a standard display are not enough for professional graphics and photo applications. A good monitor for this kind of work needs both a wide colour gamut and an excellent calibration. Here are a few of the terms you will come across:

a.The sRGB colour space is the minimum;

b.Adobe RGB is a wider gamut than sRGB and is the de facto standard in the industry. A professional display ought to be able to exactly reproduce at least 90% (preferably more) of the colours in this space;

c.Another common standard of colour space is the NTSC gamut – 72% NTSC = 99% sRGB . Therefore, a display that can reproduce more than the standard 72% NTSC will deliver even more vivid and true-to-life colours. Most of the newer Philips monitors, for example, are equipped with technologies allowing them to deliver between 85% NTSC (122.9% sRGB) and 104% NTSC (130% sRGB).

2.Another thing to consider is the monitor size and aspect ratio:

a.For a good overview of your creative work, comparisons or multitasking, a larger screen is the way to go. Any display under 27″“ simply doesn“t provide the screen real estate that a photographer or a designer needs. 32″“ and even 40″“ are suitable screen sizes that offer enough space for quality work.

b.Aspect ratio should also be considered. Widescreen displays are now standard, with many designers going for 16:9 aspect ratio as it provides not only plenty of horizontal space but relatively more space in height as for example compared to 21:9. This means it requires less neck and eye movement for a good overview and can proportionally fit standard print sizes.

3.The choice of resolution is less clear-cut, and should be considered in conjunction with display size. Is Full HD enough? Or should users go for Quad HD or even 4K? QHD displays have a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, as opposed to 19201080 with Full HD. The bigger the screen, however, the higher the resolution should be. Since professional photographers and designers will be looking at screen sizes of 27 inches and up, it makes sense to go with higher resolutions, at minimum QHD.
If you are planning to go even bigger, you should consider a 4K display, a category that is fast becoming very popular. These deliver an even greater resolution, 3840 x 2160, making them ideal for intricate zooming-in on fine detail. With more pixels packed into each square inch on the display, individual pixels remain imperceptible even at close zoom levels. Anyone who works with split screens might find a top-of-the-range 40-inch display with super-fine resolution is the right choice for their jobs.

4.Next up, the panel technology. There are two common technologies, which are great for graphics work: VA (vertical alignment) and IPS (in-plane switching). Both offer similar, extra-wide viewing angles of 178 degrees, making it possible to view the display from almost any angle. There is a difference in colour accuracy and consistent brightness, which are slightly higher in IPS panels. In a lot of newer VA panel monitors, however, this is well compensated for through special colour enhancing technologies e.g. by Ultra Wide-Color technology in Philips models, which brings colour accuracy to an excellent level. What is more, VA panels show better blacks and better contrast than IPS panels, and tend to have lower power consumption.

5.Flat or curved? This is down to personal preference. The latest curved displays wrap the screen space gently around the user“s line of vision, enabling greater focus on the task in hand: important in busy office environments. A curved display is able to create an increased perception of depth with minimal picture distortion. However, some users do report a preference for flat displays for creating (rather than viewing) content, since any distortion at all, even minimal, is unwelcome. Depending on desk space (and budget), it can be a great idea to have a dual display setup: one flat and one curved.

Graphics professionals should focus on these key features first – but also keep in mind other items such as ergonomic adjustability and good connectivity. All play a role in enabling them to be more productive throughout their working day.

AOC presents Benefits of Gaming

AOC’s AGON AG271QG gaming monitor with ergonomic stand

Amsterdam, 4 May 2017 – AOC strives to bring high quality products to the gaming market via its AGON line and, as one of the leading manufacturers of monitors, keenly promotes responsible and healthy gaming. In accordance with this aim, AOC has produced this fully cited guide to the social and cognitive benefits that result from gaming. Far from being purely for fun and entertainment, gaming improves players‘ visual information processing, decision making, and teamwork.

Cognitive abilities
Most games stimulate memory, attention span and logical thinking(i). Even gaming just a few hours a week can make a difference regardless of age. Real-Time-Strategy(RTS) games for example can enhance these abilities, as the player needs to analyse the situation against his rivals, plan ahead for an attack/defense or any advantage, remember rivals‘ actions and make counteractions, all this in a constricted time. The resulting improvements on attention and problem solving will definitely show up on the school / office or everyday life.

Decision making
Playing videogames can help improve decision-making skills(ii,iii). While some games require split-second decisions that impact the game, in some games decisions made earlier will change the course of the whole game. In Role-Playing Games (RPGs), even the early decisions on the attributes of a character and the later interactions with the world will have heavy consequences on the morality and wellbeing of the player’s character. Some Turn-Based-Strategy games also require players to analyse and react to a multitude of parameters to successfully win the game.

Processing visual information
First Person Shooter(FPS) games and Shoot ‚em up games will often require players to shift their focus rapidly on different parts of the screen(iv). While doing that, users will also try to keep their situational awareness in check. This means that the brain learns to split the attention and improve processing of incoming visual information. As the players don“t have much time to make decisions, prediction and reaction times improve. Certain studies even suggest that some gamers are as sharp as actual fighter pilots.

Teamwork
Let it be an online game with multiple teams, or just an offline co-op game with some friends, most games require players to work closely in a team. Popular competitive games such as some FPS games and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA)-style games will bring teams of 5 people together, where each player has its own strengths, weaknesses and skills. This kind of collaboration will definitely translate into workspace or to school(v).

Keeping it healthy
Hospitals equipped with game stations can impact recovery in a positive way(vi). Patients can find some distraction and joy by playing games, and even socially interact with other people and bring their optimism levels up.

AOC cares about health & comfort while gaming
While AOC promotes the benefits of gaming, its innovative technologies will keep users‘ health in check during gaming. A monitor with good ergonomics will help players‘ posture and spinal health. AOC’s Anti Blue Light / Low Blue Light technologies will reduce the blue end of the spectrum, which can cause eye-strain, headaches and sleep disorders. Whilst its Flicker Free technology reduces the flicker that occurs which can cause fatigue, dizziness and nausea. The i-Care technology uses sensors to detect the light intensity in the room and adjusts the brightness accordingly so that the users‘ eyes will not experience fatigue while adjusting to the light differences.

While there are many studies about the different positive aspects about gaming, AOC emphasises and promotes responsible gaming. It is vitally important that computer use forms part of a balanced and healthy life. Spending time outside, playing sports and being with friends are all equally important.
